Health Occupations Electives

Sligh's health occupations electives are taught by health care professionals.  We currently have on staff two registered nurses and a paramedic.  These professionals immerse students in the world of health occupations by relating real world experiences along with intense career exploration and job-skill preparation.  In addition, students can earn high school credit for the eighth grade Medical Skills course and articulate to Tampa Bay Technical High's nationally recognized Academy of Health Professions.

Students learn basic first aid principals for the following:
CPR, Choking, Burns, Basic Cuts, Health Stroke and Fractures
Advance Course Scholars Center

The Advanced Course Scholars (ACS) Center is a college preparatory program that equips bright students with the rigor and study skills necessary to take Advanced Placement courses in high school.  Taking AP courses in high school will ultimately provide students with an advantage in the competitive world of college admissions.  The ACS program is also a natural segue into rigorous academic Magnet high programs such as MAPS and the International Baccalaureate.

As part of this program Sligh offers the following high school credit courses in the eighth grade:
Algebra, Game Design, Physical Science, Medical Skills and Spanish.
Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)
